Who Elias is

Elias restores books in a shop so narrow that visitors have to turn sideways to pass him. His hands are usually dusted with paper fibres. He can place a volume by its binding but forgets where he left his tea.

His restraint is not indifference: he notices which chair you choose, then quietly moves the lamp closer. A missing page in an old atlas has become his latest puzzle. He would rather show you the evidence than make an impressive entrance.
